What is Aqualyx?
Aqualyx is made up of a number of different plant-based compounds that have been refined in a lab environment. Aqualyx dissolves the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. The fat cells become unstable and break open. The fatty acids contained within the cell are then eliminated by macrophages (part of the body’s immune system) and the liver.
Is Aqualyx suitable for me?
If you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle and are close to your ideal body weight, but have isolated stubborn areas of fat then Aqualyx might be suitable. Popular areas that we treat are double chins, moobs, saddlebags, inner thighs, cankles and abdomen – including defining a six-pack.
If you have significant weight then Aqualyx is not suitable for you, but other body contouring treatments we offer maybe. If you have recently lost significant weight then the area concerning you may be loose skin which we can improve with skin tightening treatments.
Aqualyx is not suitable if you:
- Have diabetes.
- Have liver or kidney disease.
- Have active skin problem in the area to be treated.
- Are taking blood thinning medicine e.g warfarin.
What to Expect During Treatment
Just before the actual treatment, the area will be cleaned and you will be marked up for precise injection points. You will not require topical numbing cream as the treatment discomfort is minimal. Your medical practitioner will then inject your problem area with a very small needle multiple times.
How soon do you see results?
The number of Aqualyx treatments required varies depending on the size of the fatty deposit. Typically 1-3 treatments for small areas, such as the jowls and under the chin, and 4-8 treatments for larger areas such as the thighs. Treatments are spaced at 4 weekly intervals. Your result will show 4 weeks after your final treatment which is when you will have a complimentary review with your medical practitioner.
Are Aqualyx results permanent?
Whilst the body can regenerate fat cells – the process is very slow. So once fat cells are removed from a localised area your results are as good as permanent. However, if you do not continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle then your body will put on weight in other areas of your body where fat cells remain.
Do's and Don’ts
- Do drink plenty of water to help with the excretion of the fat that has been dissolved
- Don’t expose your treated area to heat such as saunas or sunbathing
- Avoid strenuous exercise for the first week
You will be given an in-depth aftercare leaflet to go home with.
Common Questions
Pain is subjective but commonly clients say pain in minimal to moderate and last around 5-15 minutes
It's recommended 4 weeks intervals
For optimum results you must follow the aftercare
Until you have your consultation, where your practitioner will assess your area, this would be difficult to gage. But typically under the chin can be as little as 2, and larger more stubborn areas can be up to 8 sessions.
Expect swelling for a few days, so if you cannot cover up then do not have this near a social even. Especially if you are having the chin treated.
